Rick's Driver Ed.
Getting a Permit
Prior to taking the online permit test, it is recommended the teen study the Driver Manual (see Documents page) that has been published by the state of Ohio to give guidance for passing the permit test. All test questions can be found in this manual.
A teen can take their permit test online through the BMV’s website or in person at the BMV 6 months prior to turning age 16. If the test is taken online, once passed, the parent or legal guardian and child will need to go to the BMV to purchase the permit. Review the Driver Manual for documents required at time of purchase.
Once a teen obtains their permit, all driving time is to be documented. There are apps that some teens use on their phones, but if the phone gets lost, the information is lost. Another option is to just use a piece of notebook paper on the frig and enter the time driven each day. It is recommended to keep a running total so you are aware how much driving time your teen has at any given time. By state law, the time in the driver's ed. car cannot be counted towards the 50 hours.
