Rick's Driver Ed.
In-Car Training
I have a “two-student” policy, meaning there are two students in the car at a time. This is a huge plus.
-
Doubles training to sixteen (16) hours - four hours a day for four days.
-
Most teens enjoy the two-student policy, especially those who are nervous (which is most), because it gives them some downtime in the back seat where they can continue to watch, listen and learn what the other student has to deal with.
Training is conducted Monday thru Thursday
The in-car training will consist of four (4) consecutive days or two days one week and two days the next. When dividing between two weeks, that requires having to divide another pair of students also.
Once scheduled for driving days, a teen should make every effort to stay committed to the scheduled days. If a day is cancelled, it could result in considerable delay on completing the in-car training due to already scheduled students in the upcoming weeks. If a teen works, they should make every effort to request days off for their in-car training.
On school days: training is only offered for the Elida, Shawnee, LCC, Spencerville and Delphos school students. When scheduling driving days, there will need to be two students from the same school with compatible schedules.
-
Start time will begin immediately after school. Pick up and drop off will be at the school (exact location to be determined at the time of scheduling). As noted, training consists of 4 hours plus an additional few minutes for break time. Students might want to bring some money if they wish to purchase a snack.
On non-school days (summer and Christmas break): start & end location for Lima and surrounding area students will be at the Elida Middle School, LCC or Shawnee HS.
The start & end location for students from Delphos, Ottoville, Kalida and Van Wert will be Delphos Jefferson.
-
There will be two training sessions a day to schedule two groups of students.
-
First session – 9:00a to 1:00-1:15. Second session – 2:00 to 6:00-6:15.
***The student must have their permit every training day to present to the instructor.***
If the permit displays the letter “B“ (corrective lenses required) or list any other restriction(s), the student must comply with any restriction(s) in order to drive.
Failure to have the actual permit or comply with any restriction will most likely result in cancellation of that training day.
Documents required on the 1st day of training
-
Training Agreement (see documents page). Must be signed by both the parent or legal guardian and the student and dated. Once this document is signed by the instructor, it will be emailed back to the parent (for two reasons).
-
This document is required by law to be given to a parent upon completion of the form.
-
Will be a means as a receipt for payment.
-
-
The Certificate of Completion from the online course.
-
Parent-Medical form (see documents page) that has been completed by a parent or legal guardian.
DO NOT EMAIL ANY OF THE DOCUMENTS.
The above documents are required to be hand–delivered to the instructor on the first day of the in-car training.
In-Car Rules
Dress code: No slide-on shoes (flip-flops, sandals, clogs, etc.), ball caps, hoods, bandanas or open-side shirts are to be worn.
Cell phones or smart watches are not to be used during a student's behind-the-wheel nor during their “observation” time in the back seat unless specifically autorized to do so.
Daily Reports
Since I cover so much information during the 16 hours, daily reports are provided for review. Most students cannot retain everything that was taught, especially while driving due to their divided attention skills. Sitting down with your child and having them explain what they learned on each topic is an invaluable process of the overall training. If there are any topics your child is unable to remember, feel free to email those topics to me and I will respond with an explanation.
Receiving your
Certificate of Completion
Once the in-car training is completed, a Certificate of Completion (nearly identical to the online course certificate) will be emailed to you generally within a day or two. However, it is recommended that you not schedule the state driving test any sooner than about 4 days after the last day of training due to any unforeseen delay.
